install dually carbides, you wont regret it. Munches inside rear idler wheels like a fat kid on smarties. Likes to heat up in low snow, and the hot grips need to be refitted with old vmax grips. any suggestions on the overheating and idler wheel issues would be greatly appreciated.

Happy with everything but the clutch weight wear on the primary. The clutch needs weight replacements and has not met my expectations. I have owned 11 yamaha snowmobiles and this problem is the first I have experienced on any of my sleds. This problem is effected my wifes Rage as well.

This is one of the best sleds I have ever owned, engine wise. I have had to rebuild some of the rear suspension parts. The only mistake I have made was buying a Yamaha four stroke. Should have stuck with a good old reliable two stroke.

I have never been so disappointed with a snowmobile before. I have owned ten new sleds over the years, and this is the worst one. This is not my first Yamaha, but it is my first four stroke. Since Yamaha does not make two strokes anymore, I will not be buying another Yamaha. Yamaha only covered defective exhaust parts. No coverage on clutch, idler wheels, carb sync, etc. Today I could not even get it started. I should just drag it behind my truck, all the way to the dealer.

I bought this sled used with 1800 miles after reading the reviews on it. I understand now 1st hand. It is an awesome sled, great power, I mean pull you off the sled rush .Hard to beleive anyone would need more power than what this offers. Handles very well and is very comfortable. What really surprised me is the gas mileage. I filled up with 93 octane which is what it recommends and drove it 65 miles without it leaving the f in full after calculating Im getting 12.5 MPG. This is on slushy trail conditions. This means I could go 142.8 miles on a tank. Pretty nice considering this is a 3 cylinder high performace sled. I will also admit i do need a new belt for it as it was taching up a bit. If there is any such thing as the Perfect snowmobile I believe Yamaha has already created it... Its Name....SRX

The engine is second to none. I have never had a problem. I would like to compare the 2006 with that of 2007 and 2008 models considering the rear suspension change from the monoshock. I have not installed any modifications to the snowmobile nor do I plan to. My only complaint about the clutching is that it is difficult to travel at idle speed. The acceleration is quicker than the 800 Rev HOs I travel with. Cornering is good, but I agree it pushes a little in the corners when riding aggressive. All in all - a great sled and I will buy another. The engine performance trumps any other minor issues with handling or comfort.

I love my sx but it seems to dart in and out of other grooves on the trail. If the snow is hard packed and frozen, the skis grip so well that I am always weaving left and right on the trail. This happens during steady speed, letting off the throttle, braking and less noticable during acceleration. Any thoughts The sled is stock as far as I know. Appreciate any advice.

Bought from cousin 3 years ago. History of fouling spark plugs constantly. Fixed it 2 nites ago by unplugging the two wires going to some switch on right side of carb, which dealer could not explain what it did, and then plugging the wires coming from console together. took the switch out of circuit. Spark will now jump 4-5 inches, and plugs now burn clean and light brown without fouling. Awesome... Could do this in 5 seconds now

Got the sled broken in . Excellent all around . Really good in the deep stuff pulls hard from the time u hit the throttle until the time you let off . So far top speed is 100 mph but i think she will do more than that . My buddy has a 08 summit x 800 and the performance of the sled s are pretty well equal from what we can see . Yamaha has come so far with their four strokes . The nytro mtx is the mountain sled we have all been waiting for from yamaha. light nimble and lots of power . lighting quick throttle responce

I like my venture with the exception that it burns up the slides if you tension the track to Yamahas specI also find that the machine gets hot and I have to stop I reported this to the dealer with no success of getting an extra cooler for the rear Some guys are getting them for the Attac and I think that Yamaha should put a recall out and help those of us with the ventures as well

After only 300 miles I think this machine and I are going to get along just fine I have ridden Yamaha since 1991 The Attack is not going to be a good off trail machine in a stock configuration in my opinion but on trail it will be hard to keep up with Low end clutch engine engagement takes some getting use to Maintenace and off season storage is going to cost you more that you are accustomed to The stock windshield is not enough for cold weather either Front skis surely can be improved Other than that looks great runs even better

I am very satisfied with this sled with a few exceptions The wheels in the back shredded in less than a 100 miles and I rode the sled for an additional 1000 miles because none of the dealers in Quebec had the wheels The high fax was almost down to the rail and I had the dealer in Princeville QC change them I brought them home and gave them to my dealer in Pittsfield MA He said no problem we can warranty them I gave them the bill from QC and he submitted it to Yamaha The only wear on the hyfax was the last 2 feet where the idlers were missing When I arrived home the last time 2 weeks ago the dealer told me that Yamaha rejected the claim What is up with this Because Yamaha put defective wheels and knew they were defective when I bought the machine they should 1 change the wheels and 2 pay for the hyfax which was a result of the wheels not being there The other thing is I would like to see Yamaha step up to the plate and eliminate the need to spend a couple of hundred dollars to eliminate the darting I rode 400 miles last Sat in loose snow conditions and the only way I could make the sled worthy of riding was to take a ski off another Apex and put it on mine Maximum speed before the change was 30 miles per hour When the sled is produced it should come with a setup that works I did try the dual runners made by Yamaha and almost crashed because of the push in corners I ended up going back to the hotel and put the old ones back on I have 38 years of snowmobiling behind me for experience and have owned more than 100 sleds Also usually put over 10000 miles per year It would be nice to see Yamaha become the first manufacturer of workable carbides

This is a great ATV I bought it to work and it does all that I throw at it The 400cc engine runs strong and having the 5 gears in low range and 5 in high range makes it great for many tasks Im in the process of mounting a plow and Im sure the Bear will tackle all that mother nature can dish out So far no problems a great working ATV If it has a fault it would be that it is full time 4x4 you cant switch to 2 wheel drive

A bit old school by today's standards but it is one of the best pure trail sleds you can own. The front Ohlins are truly awesome. They soak up the bumps and keep you pointed down the trail at all times. The 8" rear suspension keeps the sled flat through the corners (although you may wish you had a hot tub when the trails get really rough). As for the engine, it's not exactly a "gutsy" 600 but the responsive clutch keep you "fast" as you exit the turn. The braking effort is light and always predictable. It's fun giving my buddies all they can handle on the trails and in the woods (especially when I'm up against their high $$$, newer, faster sleds).

Picked up sled end of season.. Did get to run it this weekend.. Ungroomed breaking trails in Catskills.. Deep powder.. Sled never got stuck! climbed all hills in front of it.. Old ride was 99srx700.. Rage engine pull hard from low up to 80.. Handwarmers do not get Crazy hot like srx.. But are warm enough.. Highbeem switch on rage is not as easy to reach with hands on bars as srx rear flap tends to get tucked under track easily. wind protection is good. Clutch has a diesel rattle which yamaha knows about and has upgrade kit coming out.. All in all great performing sled for a fourstroke.. Does not feel that heavy when riding..

This Rage is absolutely the most impressive machine I have ever owned. I've been riding sleds for 30 years! It is not a "svelte" handling machine on tight trails even with the addition of Woody's Dualies. She still likes to push a bit and shows her weight. Wide open fast trails with moderately tight corners are what showcases this machine. The triple is a torque monster and it's nice to have compression braking when you need it.It also starts perfectly at 10 degrees below zero! The carburation and clutching seem to work very well stock. The lack of 2 cycle noise on a 100 mile day really diminishes the fatigue factor. The 136" track bridges a lot of "pain". I was not feeling run-out at the end of the day. This is the first sled that allows you to actually hear the airflow around your helmet as you experience in motorcycle riding. Wind protection is also very good without looking stodgy. Now for the complaints: Transport with a fuel level below the carbs. Come on! how about fuel shut-offs for both of the lines. I would like Yamaha to provide these to all RS owners. The machine should not be delivered with the 4" carbides. Totally inadequate! Lack of storage anywhwere on the machine with the exception of the tiny tool box area and the area below it is not good. Next is the realization at 10 below zero that the machine has started with no instrumentation and no lights. I thought I was done for the day. But as it warmed the components came up sequentially. I understand the rationale but it would have been good to mention it in the owners manual. Kudos to the boys at Yamaha. They created a winner "out of the box". P.S. I'm still gonna keep my 2000 Ski-Doo 600 Grand Touring I still haven't weaned myself off of the 2 stroke smoke!

Love the mountain max 700. Good in the snow if you know how to handle it. After passing summit 800's in the hills along with RMK's. Installed a B&B elimanator race edition exhaust can on it and man what a sound!! This sled in insanely loud, Really turns heads no matter where you go. Installed a 2 inch camoplast sawtooth track big difference over the stocker. This thing hooks up really well now even compared to before. Motor is bulletproof, as all yamaha motors are. My old phazer finally died. The motor finally went after 32,000 km's without a rebuild or a set of rings. The sled always did 120km/h right till the end. The dam sled wouldn't die. It would start first pull ,four shots of primer at -50 degrees celcius .Best sled i ever owned

This sled is awsome! it makes some funny clutch noise ocasionally and it is kind of harsh over rough trails, but overall a very nice machine. Im sure the low fuel economy (compared to others) is due to the fact I weigh 250 lbs and have not studded. I came from riding a 1997 sx 600. I cant say that it handles/drives any better, but sure sounds better and gets moving across the lakes. Im sure most of you wont believe this, but I was up north that really cold week in Jan. and I hit 110 on the speedo on a lake- stock!! All I have done is put on the rear heat exchanger to keep from the common overheating. I will NEVER hae a sled without reverse ever again!!

I own two of these and my friend owns one. They all handle very poorly off the trail. They are too heavy in the front and won't turn. I put Simmons skis on one and it helped, but the stock skis are junk and will grab certain types of snow and try to roll the sled. This makes you very uneasy and think that any given moment you are going to flip over.

Installed 10 tooth drivers, 5 mph gain on the radar. 3 T.P.I. low boys on the intake for warmer days.Replaced the stock track with a 1" staggered paddle to hook up a 121" without loosing mph.

I have a new Yamaha Rage, It took me a little while to dial it in. However after 144 studs and 8 inch carbides this thing drives on rails! Theengine braking is a lot to get use to. However you can you it to your advantage when coming into a corner and setting up to go thru it. It really gives you ski bite if you come in hard and coast. Very nice machine! I am ready for the 4cyl now! Bring on the Apex!

Has hauled her value in firewood. Installed grease fitting in rear susp. to improve ride. Metal Man shim kit in tss. Original track and sliders. Original shocks still good. Ram GPS mount had to be reinforced. Top speed:62mph. Easy on lube. Will run hot and loggy on +5 days but never damaged. Replaced bearings in rear susp. Reverse works flawless. Ratchet track under big bump high speed use. Always use cover when trailering or else dust/dirt will ruin recoil.

Bought this machine right out of the crate. Heard alot of good things about it, especially the 4 stroker. Love the power, but it could afford to loose a little weight. In regards to ride comfort, maybe a few more inches of foam in the seat to absorb some of the back hits. A major problem I have is darting on the straight aways. Any ideas how to cure this? Going in for its first maintenance this week...hopefully they have the cure, but if not...thats why were here.

this is my second rx1 that i have owned.after installing many mods on the first sled, to take care of ill handleing issues,it ran great.my 05 sled has a pioneer roller secondary clutch, holtzman carb springs, bender exhaust, woodys dooley carbides, 96 studs in the track.i did install the stiffer coil spring on the mono shock, due to the sled riding was too soft.the sled handles better than the 03 does, and of coarse rides better, due to the mono shock read suspention.it runs very well.drop me a line, if you would like to know more, happy trails.

Good points: Beautiful fit & finish. Great power & speed. Really good gas mileage for Quebec. Starts well at -10f. No oil to add. Little stink in motel room at night...just my ass! Bad points: Horrible ride. Coming from an 01 800 Edge with 6000 miles that rode excellent. I rode this 04 1000 miles around Lac St. Jean and my back was hurting EVERY night. Sled darts like an old VW beetle in 50mph gusts on the interstate. In my opinion Yamaha never should have released this POS to the public. Spoke to the Yamaha guy at Haydays this fall (the guy in the setup video) for over an hour before buying this sled. I'd like to take the Yammy guys on tour for a week in Quebec to show them what position sensitive shocks are all about. Any Rev or Edge or F series cat will leave an RX-1 in the dust on rough or twisty trails. I find the trail has to be near perfect to be able to keep up with other sleds. Looks like I'll finish the year on my gas guzzling 800 Edge and buy new in the spring. Sorry Yamaha....won't buy another for a long time and will ride one at length before buying again.

I first jumped on this thing, hit the gas and almost piled it into a tree. I have studded this sled and thought I would burn up the factory carbides on mediocre trails b4 I spent the jing on new. What I found is that you need to roll the power on with this machine and use the engine braking in the corners. If you are wondering what kind of rider I am, I consider myself agressive. I have 30 years in the saddle in Wisconsin's North woods. After riding this thing almost 500 miles and throwing on 7 1/2 inch carbides I have mastered riding this beast to a whole new level. I have not adjusted anything on the sled and don't see any need. It sucks the bumps up like a caddy and drives like you are on cruise control. This is the kind of sled you can ride 200 miles of bumpy trails & still walk when your done. I traded with a few curious friends that ride F7's. The same comments came from all of them. It doesnt have the snap of the 2 stroke but it has low end torgue that will straighten you right out and get your attn. We ran a bunch of sleds across an untouched lake, 2 of us were on Rages there was also 1 F7, 2 switchbacks, 1 skidoo 600, 1 SRX and 1 Viper. I thought for sure I would be left sitting there! However We all took off with the drop of a hat and I looked over only to see the other Rage and I running neck and neck pulling away from the rest. We both took a double take as we had never expected to slodder everyone out of the hole. Around 80mph the switchbacks and F7 went by us then came the little 600. The viper or srx never did catch us b4 we ran out of lake. We did this a few times and had the same results over and over. The top speed on a hardpacked lake that I have seen on the speedo has beed 107mph. I don't think it is capable of much more as this was really an ideal location and I had it to the wood for a crazy long time. Any other questions drop me and e-mail Skidog

We have two RX1's. The first year, the seats ripped. The dealer replaced them and did the recall work, fixing the rivet problem. Year two, they ripped again in the same area. The dealer replaced them but said that Yamaha will not replace them free again. I wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Glenn

I have had this sled for 5 years and the only upgrade I did was to install a 96 XT suspension that fixes the only fault the sled has. My first sled was a ET340. We have an 83 Polaris Indy Trail (what a pile of junk). A 83 SRV and a 98 XTC. I'd buy another Yamaha for my next sled. The VMAX 4 has been a tow truck for many SKI DOO's, POLARIS' and CATS. Funny how I never seem to have to tow YAMAHAS

Here kitty, kitty, kitty!! I absolutely love this sled I've had it since day 1, and still have no reason to upgrade. I love being able to take corners at 50+ mph and not having to hesitate at all! It's hilarious when cat and doo owners try to out run me, I don't think there;s very many sleds that will do 120 mph on top end! As far as reliability goes, I haven't had this sled break down on me once, I haven't had to do any major repairs or overhauls, It's got almost 7500 miles on it and I haven't had to touch the motor once! And it still runs as strong as it did the first time I rode it! Buy the best, Ride the best Yamaha! USI Performer ski's Comet Clutch Roller Secondary Camoplast Track SLP silencer

Bender mods, including triple pipes, jetting and clutching, rear heat exchanger, V-force reeds, Camoplast 1.25. The machine really performs well. Complaints about the Bender mods are: somewhat difficult pipe installation (marginal fit) and their lack of altitude clutching and jetting information. I got that info from Mountain Performance - they were very helpful. Of most concern is clearance for the exhaust valve cables. The servo mechanism has to be repositioned and the cable re-routed, but they still run way too close to the pipes and I have had to replace those cables twice due to heat damage and resultant failure of the cables. I have (hopefully) addressed the problem by wrapping the cables thoroughly with insulated heat tape.

At first it ran fat in the low and mid range. But I think i've got it figured out. Keep the jets and solenoids in the smartcarbs clean. Plug the vent holes in the bottom of the airbox. They allow belt dust into the carbs which in turn plugs things up. I installed a .8 mill headgasket. Great improvement in the low range. I also dropped the needle jet down a little, which also helped. Its 8000 km on it and I only paid $2500 CAN for it. I love it more every time I ride it. Its a hell of a machine for the money.

This bike handles great in the corners with a nice mid range snap coming out of them. Top speed is around 150mph. Personally (almost) to fast. Lacks the throttle punch, but bike is very comfortable. Do not get me wrong this bike can ride a wheely:)

I bought my viper last last year and i now have 3140 miles on it. I installed SLP Triple pipes, 144 woody studs, and a belly pan. The sled runs mint and has a good amount of power with the SLP exhaust system. I rejetted it after i installed the pipes and i am still getting 12-13 mpg, and the plugs burn toast brown. I am going to leave the clutch alone but i would like to change suspension so i will have a more comfortable ride. Would anyone have a recommendation for suspension that is not to expensive?

i just love this sled. went from 1997 et410 to this for my trail runnin. steers like its on rails with oem carbides. runs smooth and fast enough fer me. great trail/lake sled for first timer lots of power in trails and stays within reasonable distance of the bigger sleds on the lake. just wish more mods where availible for motor. lots availible for chassis but few for this motor in this chassis. thinkin bout puttin pro action skid in betsy (et410) so that trail manners and powder depth are enhanced. and i am puttin wider skis on sxr to try and get rid of submarine effect in the powder. im gonna run it till it dies.

My sled`s engine failed in april. Dealer said that most likely reason was that bearing failed in crankshaft. Well, it broke the connetionrod clean off and destroyed the piston. Thank God the sylinder did not suffer any real damage... Talk about luck ! Anyone else had theese kind of problems? Please let me know ! Ps. That little fan cooled piece of so called engine is stock. It is the only probelm I´ve ever had with this sled. I´ve installed WP-gas shocks to it, red skidplate, extra wide skiskins ( 10 inch )etc. It is a dream to ride ! No bottoming problems suspensionwise.

I have owned this sled since day one (August 1991) and have yet to find a reason to upgrade to a newer model. (I did buy a 1997 700sx w/triple pipes etc) and it is more nimble thru the tight twisties, however 9 times out of 10 I pick the Vmax-4 when it's time to ride.

I would like to know if any one else is having the same trouble as I am. This sled has the worst cooling system I have seen to date. The sled can't sit for more than 2 to 3 min and it shuts down, and if I am riding it at slower speeds the the temp light comes. I have checked the heat exchangers and they are hot. I haven't gotten any answers from my local dealer.

The 700cc is a great engine and everyone always comments on the great yamaha 3 cylinders sound. The deep lug mountain track is a blessing in all sorts of snow conditions. For anyone who is used to shorter machine (121'track) there is a bit of getting use to due to the narrower ski stance and longer overall length,The snowmobile tends to lift its inner ski during steep turns so you have to learn to take it a bit slower. As regards to the gas mileage it depends totally on the driver, if you drive it hard, its hard on fuel and if you take it easy on the throttle the gas mileage can be great. All in All a grat machine!

The smallest turn I can make is a 30 foot diameter and that is down from a 45 foot circle before I moved the take up straps up another 1/4". The ride was bone jarring and killing my back. It bottoms out less now that I changed the dampening adjustment to the hardest setting, control rods at line 4, moved second rear shock to the hardest position. Rider weight = 212. I love the sound, or lack there of, I like the power but this thing just does not handle well or corner well. I'm a lot more comfortable on a Yamaha 600. Also both the owners manual and the service manual are not well written. If fact, I used a Ski Doo manual to understand what kinds of suspension adjustments were necessary to get the thing to ride a little better. Also, the hand warmers don't work very well compared to my old two stroke machine. Finally, this thing is really jumpy and difficult to finesse at slow speeds.

Never thought it was going to be this way... Love the Reverse and Electric start... Gas and go... All I have done is play with the suspension some and what a difference... Clutch is next... FRA in the middle, Transfer rods all the way out redline, Clicker on shock set on 11, straps up 1/2", 6" carbides on a 1/2" diameter bar for skis, Mirrors, Yellow ski handles, Jack seat for the kids...

Really enjoying the sled. Yamaha did what was said couldn't be done. Good all around machine. It overheats too easily, needs stiffer swaybar & rear shock calibration is terrible. Stiff on studder bumps & bottoms bad with everything on full stiff! I know Yamaha knows what to do, because the Viper update was soft & NEVER bottomed out! With a few adjustments I'll be the best a 4 stroke can be. This thing is SMOOOOOTH! This evaluation is based on three 2004 RX Warrior LE's my family purchased, not one! The other 2 sleds have 2500 miles on them each.

Love this sled, not as fast as my mod 2002 srx but light years away in the ride. I have tried the Ski-doo rev renegade and I think it really is the best machine all around. However, the warrior is great in deep snow, but to heavy when high marking. If only the Rx1 had better rear suspention it would be perfect. Plus a bender turbo!!!

Bought it 4 Months ago . Hadthis reocuring problem of when id drive around on it and let go of the gas lever and squeeze it again the machine would sound like it was running on only 2 cylinders if i played with the throttle again it would clear up.. our local dealership shaved the needles down in the carbs re shimed the carbs, wound the secondary spring as far as it counld go so it would upshift anddown shift faster still didnt fix the problem, tryed different gas still no fix tryed br9e(c)s plugs non fouling plugs still no fix, tryed driving faster because they said it could be the powervalves gumming up and getting stuck i drove ot in the range of 100-170 klm still no fix. Today i got it back and the said the middle power valve was stuck so they sai try synthetic oil. needles to say i think this is not going to be it either, i am not impressed with yamaha at all this has been the most expencive and imbaring winterof all. This is my 2nd yamaha and my last yamaha. 2005 my money is going to skidoo. sorry yamaha im going back to bombardier

Yamaha Rules as far as the kids/mini sled class goes. But what I really want to know is how do the rules read in the 120 class for kids racing, could the Sno-Sport qualify to race? Or a Sno-Scoot as far as that goes, wouldn't matter, either would kick the crap out of cat, ski-doo, or polaris 120s. What really got me thinking about this was at Eagle River Derby this year on Sunday they had the kids finals for the 120 Sno-X, if my daughter would have been there with her Sno-Sport, Well the outcome would be obvious, which is why they probably would let them run. If anyone knows the race rules for 120s, email me & let me know. Thanks

This sled is AWSOME!!! All the 03s should have been.. Flat cornering and excellent cadilac ride.. a little push in corners because of the longer track but more than makes up for it in the ride department... i added 6 in woody dualies and man were they worth it..NO DARTING!! all this sled needs is Heavy Hitters and its a ass kicker!!! In the past, I've had 2000 SRX and then a 2003 Viper. The RX Warrior has the speed of the srx, the big bump handling of the viper. more engine smoothness than both and the best all around ride comfort of any sled I've ridden. Well worth the money spent, in my humble opinion.

I really like my sled! My first few times out in it were horrible gas comsumption and sluggish performance. I took my sled in to Motorsports Plus in St. Paul and the mechanic cleaned out the carb intakes. It seems that the yamaha twins collect the dust from the belts and will clog up the intake valves. I just drove it today for the first time after the fix and was amazed with the performance!! I'm getting much better gas performance now, not sure on the numbers yet. One thing is for sure, it really sounds and performs nice now.

This has been the most reliable sled I've owned! I've had Cat, loved the sled but the sled loved my dealer even more. It's not designed to be the fastest and it isn't. It's made to trail ride and that it does extremely well except for darting. I plan on order a new sled next spring so I'm hoping Yamaha does something kick start their line up again! Otherwise I'll be on a new Ski Doo after riding my brother's new Renegade!

hello, this is my first time at this site period, and for this motorcycle. this bike is bought new. everything is stock. there have been no adjustments made. regular service has been upkept, oil changes, rear diff services. no spark plugs, or carb adjustments or cleanings. this motorcyle idles down low, under 1000 rpm, feels like maybe its not running on all cylinders, you hear the occasional spit and sputter, sometimes when you go to snap rev it, it will back fire. at stop lights it will die sometimes. it seems to like the cooler temps better. my dealer says that it needs a 500 dollar carb job??!! he says that these carbs have smaller than usual orifaces and that they often clog up, like once a year!?? he also said that i should of had the carbs adjusted at about 1000 miles? about 300 bucks?? i was brought up on kz's, where you could pop the carbs off in minutes, literally. never had troubles like with this machine. does this sound right for this bike, the max!!?? thanks for your ideas..... marc

SLP triple piped, Simmons skis, Dugan's Lefthand Throttle, SLP Flo-rites, minor suspension changes. Never fouled a plug. Original belt. Awesome gas mileage. The SLP pipes made all the difference in running with the 800's. Left hand throttle is a must-have for mountain side hilling. Possible next upgrade... 151 track kit. Took awhile to get used to the machiene after being on Ski-doo for years. I learned to love it and loving it more on every ride.

excellent trail sled, got rid of the steel ski for factory plastic skis.the yokohama .375 track to a dump after 1200 miles, yamaha gave me 100.00$ tward a new one.decided on a camo predator 8.8.installed P.P long travel rear suspension this year. no problems with this sled after 6000 miles, but take the rear suspension out after every season and in spect all the bushings. the do get whipped after a few years depending how you ride and how much you grease it.Also keep a eye on the rivets where the trailing arms attach to the running boards they may start to pull out.

I have been out of snowmobiling for a number of years. So I might not be a good judge of new sleds. But I will say that the RX-1 lives up to all that I have read.My friends that rode my sled all thought that it was a great sled for ride and comfort. It might not be the rocket that some of the other sleds are, but it will hold it`s own.More to come later.

I like everything about this sled except the track and the rear suspension. I put on 1.25 predator and an M-10 rear suspension it really hooks up with that track. The M-10 rides better than any other suspension it's incredible and I've rode them all the EDGE Arctic Cats and Ski Doo. Do yourself a favor,If you like your Viper or RX-1 but don't like the ride get an M-10 well worth the money

I not only own 1 srx700 I own 4 of them a 99,00,and 2 01s. This past weekend I was riding in silver Cliff Wi, where my sisters cabin is located , and I noticed that on my 01 srx the W-arm was cracked then I looked at my 99 same thing so I checked my 2000 and it was cracked in the very same spots .My new 2001 srx was purchased as a demo with 2k on it. I installed a M-10 upon purchase, and put the complete suspension up in the attic . When I got home from the ride up north, I took out the 01 with the broken w-arm in it and was going to replace it with the suspension that I took off of my new 01. When I took it out of the attic That one was cracked too!!! I would like to know if there is more of these problems and if there is I think yamaha should put out a service recall.

Goes trough anything, never gets stuck. The front end is a bit heavy and the skies give you plenty of snow in the face. Other then that the sled is great, the engine is simply awsome, no trouble what so ever. Confort is very good, but its not a ditch banger. Clutching needs alot of tuning and you won't break the land speed record. I just love this sled, never puts a smile off my face even if its not completly perfect.

HAD A HORRIBLE TIME IN DEEP POWDER LAST YEAR KEEPING SLED UPRIGHT SO INSTALLED SIMMONS SKIS AND THAT HELPED SOMEWHAT BUT MUST NOT USE CUTTER CARBIDES ON THE SKIS AS THE WEIGHT ON THE SKIS IS SUCH THAT IT'S TOO AGRESSIVE WHEN TURNING SO CHANGED TO REGULAR CARBIDES AND THEY HELPED A LOT. HAVE CHANGED THE FRONT SHOCK SPRINGS TO THE STRAIGHT RATE SPRINGS NOW AND ADDED THE LONGER SWAY BAR LINKS. WAITING FOR SOME SNOW TO TRY OUT THE NEW SETUP. YAMAHA IS STILL SAYING THEY WANT $35 EACH FOR THE LONG LINKS BUT WHEN I ORDERED MINE THEY SENT ME TWO PACKAGE WITH 2 LINKS EACH IN THEM FOR THE $35. I NOW HAVE TWO SETS OF THEM. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE LINKS FOR THE 10MM STOCK SWAY BAR FIT THE 11MM SWAY BAR? YAMAHA IS TRYING TO SELL ME NEW LINKS THE 11MM BAR AND BUSHINGS. CAN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FROM THEM. I have had a new polaris since 1994 every year. I like the 4 stroke idea and felt it performed well for the first ever hi-po 4 stroke. However typical yamaha rough ride, they need a new skid. Get off an Rx1, on rough trails and on to an edge you won't want to give the Polaris back. I have sold the RX1 but I will buy another as soon as the do something with the rear skid.

THE SUSPENSION ISNT THE BEST, BUT I KNOW THAT AT THE BEGINNING WHEN I BOUGHT IT(THE POWER AND SPEED MAKE OF FOR IT.) ALSO SOME MODS THAT IVE DONE TO IT ARE, CUSTOM CHECKER FLAG WINDSHIELD, OHLINS FRONT SHOCKS, NEW YAMAHA BLUE SKIDE PLATE, AND 96-1.15 EXTREME MAX STUDS DOWN THE MIDDLE(NOT ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE). THIS SLED HOOKS UP GREAT NOW. I LOVE THIS SLED!!

I bought 2 of these machines for my 2 sons,19 and 21,with the low suspension giving a great race feel and poor ride to try to keep their speeds down on trails,it worked very well.In Canada insurance company's are excellent at rates for any machine under 500 cc.I do find that the cluthing needs to be finetuned to work better.Gas consumption is excellent.

Bought 1 98 srx 600 new. Loved it so much I bought a second one used last year. Both machines have been excellent. I would like to adress some questions I have seen. Cleaning power valves...I do mine about every 1500k. Using synthetic oil definately extends the cleaning period. Also yamaha has a superior brake I have found changing the brake fluid keeps it that way. If you have not changed the fluid try it,it will make a noticable difference.Synthetic oil in the chaincase is also a very good move. p.s. I ride with pola... boys,at first they teased the only yamaha guy,not anymore. Now they treat me with the utmost respect. Great site, keep up the good work.

If you are lookin for the hole shot you will need to up grade the track and perhaps a clutch kit. I am very happy with it and so is my wife, she loves ridin it too. It doesn't feel that heavy and rides great after you dial in the suspention.. I would recomend this sled to anyone that is seious about trail ridin..

no one has yet proved me wrong that the srx 600 is the fastest 600 ever made, it comes stock with 130hp,triple pipes, everything, the 700 srx comes with 140hp and the 600 is lighter so it is about even. The sxr 700s only come with like 120 something hp. This sled has tons of power all I have added is a bender can which is awesome. This sled has been up to 118, best i've seen from a 600 STOCK. Other owners with the same sled report speeds from 115 to 118. This sled runs even with multiple piped 700s and wastes single piped 700s and any 600. Great sled it unfortunate Yamaha stopped making them in 99

best sled I have ever owned. The stock track sucks so I replaced it with a 1.25" 9833 Fully Clipped Camoplast predator Awesome track! The rear suspension is stiff and is not very forgiving. The handling was poor to start so I put a 12mm sway bar in and the skis stuck tight to the trail after that. The engine is AWESOME! Not one hiccup all season! The warrior would be my next choice but not until Yamaha gets EFI and a significantly improved rear skid. Then I will buy my next RX-1. Until then, I love my 2003. I plan to get 10000 trouble free miles...I hope!

I upgraded and bought 2, two-up Ventures for several reasons. Room for gear, room for those family rides with the wife and kids, great ride, and plenty of power. The front 3/4 of the sled is essentially a V-Max and it acts like one. When riding solo, it feels like a long track Max. The moguls, the curves, the straight aways are all a thrill. They handled the U.P. trip this year very well. My friend that went on the trip with me said that when we first hit the trail and he cracked the throttle, he smiled ear to ear and never stopped. Yamaha makes a great line up of sleds, I just wish there were more of you out there that would consider the Venture for your next sled. The family may like it too.

my sled rode good and handled fair, until I extended to a 136 track and put woodys dual runner carbides on the rx 1ton.clutching didnt take as much.I took the old 89a ramp and welded 4.5 grams on the under side of ramp and put 4.5 gram pin in it.just that simple and cheap. It works well enough to beat mach z that once beat me,and dont seem to reduce fuel economy. great gromed trail sled

Added reed spacers, ceramic coated the pipe, bender silencer (?). I went back to the stock one, too loud. Hi-Tech secondary (back shift is awesome).Added the Yamaha mirrors (fun watching the Cats drop back comming out of the corners). I'm upgrading to variable springs and shocks, can't wait to try them out. Thinking about new skis for darting problem although it got noticably better when I softened up the suspension, will wait to see after I try new spring/shock combo. The handling is just a blast in the trails, NOBODY pulls away from me there. Thinking about gearing down one tooth on the primary and a speed ring. This sled is just a blast to ride and I can't complain about the quality or mileage either.

Any clues to improving the ride on this thing before I invest in an M-10? It's good on smooth trails and in the "smooth" swoops, but take it down an old rairoad bed and grit your teeth if you go over 20 m.p.h.. I've backed out the limiter straps and it helped a little. It feels like the shocks are valved wrong or something. Also, the front seems a little tippy especially if you don't hit it dead square. My fuel mileage seemed to be getting better with each ride but it is well shy of the 20 m.p.g. that I heard it would get. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am 6 foot and 275lbs. I am a semi-aggressive trail rider. Thanks.

Just bought a 1998 Yamaha Mountain SRX. I live in North Dakota. This sled outright rips, out ditch banging and flatriding around here I can almost turn out over 100MPH. Thats turning a 136"x2" Camoplast challenger track that this sled did not come with from the factory. It also has a Vari-flow system on it and a bender cold air intake. I am not a "TECH Head", or a serious Sled Neck...I just like to ride, and my brothers who ride nothing but Yanaha's convinced me to dump my Polaris and get this sled when a buddy of theirs was selling it. I had no lost love for the Polaris RMK 600, was a doggy sled and I didn't like the handling. Question though: I am going to the Bighorns in 10 days, I am going to jet it for there, and my brother wants me to take the weights out of the primary clutch to make it snappier??? Is that a good idea? Do you guys have any suggestions on how to set up this sled? I just bought Simmons ski's to take care of the flotation problems. It was a nose dive pig in the black hills in the powder, plus My brothers have those ski's and love them. I drove my brothers 2000 700MM with these ski's and it had amazing handling in two to three feet of powder. So suggestions would help me out. Later Scott

Great sled. Tons of smooooth power. Compaints are wt., running boards, and skiis. I solved the ski issue with pr of simmons. I got the the running board back by removing the rear fairing and routing the cooling hose up through the exhaust fairing and back around the exhaust can. Next year i tackle the wt with new susp., battery, a-arms. Wish I could find a lighter air box. Still a quality sled. Can't go back to a "blue smoker".

Sled was a challenge at first on bad trails but after many suspension wrenching have a sled that handles the power, cuts tight corners as well as my 700SX and pulls just about onything on the lake. Contemplating next step to turbo, clutching and gearing can only imagine the rush.

While the engine and clutching were right on for my type of riding, the machine rode and handled like brick right out of the box. Fortunately, I found good setup advice on the TY and RX1 forums and was able to turn this machine into a real pleasure to ride. My only real complaint at this time is darting under certain snow conditions but that should be easily cured by going to Ski Doo Precision dual runner type skis.

I like the trail manners of the 700 and the ride, the engine peformance is not what i expected from a 700tripple, pipes and proper clutching fixed that, and now i enjoy riding my 700.

Love it there is nothing that will touch it, raced many ski-doo 800's and they didn't even come close to it. the only mods are v-force reads and a little clutch work and a 1 1/4 track.

Rode very hard and uncomfortable in stock settings. Replaced rear suspenstion springs (OEM)with softer rates and relocated FRA to "A" position. Now rides like a Polaris Extra 10. Had darting problem that only responded to maximum toe-out adjustment. Need to stiffen up front sway bar as still have ski lift and scary cornering at times. Rode sled on 650 mile "saddlebag" trip across Wyoming, Montana and Idaho in conditions from groomed to two feet of new snow in blizzard white-out. Sled is top-heavy and tippy in deep show. Will work on sway-bar mods. Otherwise, love the sled. First year models need tweaking.

I have just installed some CPR performance stuff on my sled and it freakin rips!! Jeff Simons has done a great job making my viper go I installed a set of triple pipes "Stealth Series" and a Thundershift clutch kit and a jet kit. Now my sled can wip pretty much anything out there. I dragged agaianst 800 revs no compatition. I love the perfomance, know I just have to solve my suspension issues. Thanks Jeff for the help! Nate T.

Found some hairline cracks in my hood. They are from 2 divots found on the inside of the hood being caused by 2 screws on the steering support post that rub when the hood is closed. Anyone else experiencing this? Wanted to have some amo when I call the dealer and talk to them about it. Thanks, Steve

I went from a 700SX to the RX-1. I really felt I gave up alot in the handling. I tried the skiis, I tried the springs, I tried the sway bar, and all combinations. There is no way to get the RX-1 to rail around the corners like my 97 700 Sx.I feel it's to heavy, and top heavy too. It's a blast on big wide trails like Canada. But most of my riding is on rather tight, sometimes nasty stuff.I won't leave Yammy yet, that's why I traded my dealer straight up far a brand new 02 SRX700. I'm a happy man now. It rides stiffer but it's low, flat, fast, and it rails!! By the way, Yamaha best be comming out with something more interesting than what I've seen for 04, or I might join the REVolution, or get a little EDGEy, but I'll NEVER become a pussyCAT!!!

I still love this sled. I have been on others that were faster and handled big bumps better but I have yet to ride a sled that out handles the SX on flat to medium bumps. It has that "One rails feel" very forgiving, reliable and stable handling, not tippy at all like most big bump sleds. Rides 10 times smoother than any SRX (They ride like a brick in comparison)

the sled works awesome after putting a new helix and belt on. it has mirrors, low red windsheild, and 144 woodys studs. Anyways i was wondering how to set it up as far as front suspension and ski pressure, because it just WILL NOT handle around corners, but i love the ride. Once i get the skis right and set the clutch up right it will be a nice sled email me if you know anything.

It's old but it's still a good sled that you can throw around because it's small. It can do 87 m.p.h on the speedo, and thinking about putting on a AEEN pipe. Spins ALOT, good for roosting people. track is still good and original.

I have just purchased a 1997 venture 600. It wasn't running smoothly so I took it to a dealer to have it tuned. Spent $369.00 and it still runs poorly. After I bought it I realized it is a "smart carb" machine and at this point I don't think it works. I have had Yamaha's since my first machine in 1972 - it still runs (purrs) and I haven't done anything other than change plugs. My next addition was a 1988 Bravo which I still have and it never fails. After that I bought a 1988 Phazer also which I still have and it also "purrs". Last year we bought a 1991 Venture 485 and it "purrs". So I think I know what a machine should run like. We own a Honda Odyssey and a Toyota Tundra - they "purr". This 1997 Venture 600 gurgles and farts and eats gas. I think it was actually made by Arctic Cat or Bombardier. Not a happy camper right now and I'm challenging the dealer and Yamaha to fix it right. Anybody got any suggestions??????

I LOVE this sled. just traded my 97 600sx for it because the sx had 9000 miles and was getting tired. engine is quite snappy and the clutching is nice and smooth and is nice on the trails. suspension is a little stiff, but the more I ride it the more it sets in and rides better. could benefit from deeper track to get the power down and make use of it. as a trail sled it is a sweet sled, like a slotcar. Love my Yamaha's!

Having talked to several viper mt owners it seems we all have the same problem. The 2003 sxviper mt. seems to want to carry the nose high which causes it to trench in powder conditions. After suspension adjusts till blue in the face nothing seems to work. Seems the exhaust values are causing it to hit to hard and the track can not ever get hooked. Hate to admit, but mountain max is killing us in the powder, just can't keep the track hooked. Some have tried different gearing to no avale, some are trying different helix, and some are really pissed.Do you any suggestion, or solutions

Originally bought because it was less $ than srx and it was my first new sled....for trail riding it handles great very reliable put a belt on it slides and carbides, runs great from -15 below 0 to 40 above. Not as fast as an srx or the other hero sleds on the lake......but smaller twisty trails its right behind them....YAMAHA...THEY DONT MAKE A MORE RELIABLE SLED. I ride with polaris and articats, nothing but trouble, lousy gas milage bolts falling out ect.
