Grizzly Clutching Maintenance

Its very important to check you grizzly clutches on a periodic bases, especially after doing a lot of water or mud running. The clutching vents run high on the fenders and on occasion will allow mud and water to get to the clutches.

The best thing to do is pull the drain on the underside of the clutch cover. If it seams to have a lot of water or mud in it then proceed further. Remove the foot well area with Phillips head screws in the fenders and the 4 - 10mm bolts on either side of the foot peg area.

Remove the several 10mm perimeter bolts around the outside of the clutch housing. Remove the Cage on the primary. Turn 2 of the 10mm bolts from the housing into the secondary face to collapse the secondary sheaves to remove the belt. See Pics.

Remove the primary center bolt and the outer sheaves will pull off. This can be taken to your work bench for greasing and or changing the clutch roller weights for performance. You will not need to remove the secondary for greasing and maintenance.

Remove the screws that hold the grease retainer onto the clutch to expose the spider and rollers. Thoroughly clean and re grease with Yamaha specific grease. Make sure to grease buttons and the rollers. As shown below.

Notice the roller in picture to the right and below, the roller has a inner weight that can be changed for more performance.

The Secondary spring can also be changed for performance. But this is not as easy as it may look. You will need to provide down pressure to remove the center keeper to remove the spring.

Once all your maintenance or mods have been done to the clutched re install in reverse order.
