How to Determine Track Length on a Snowmobile

By MrSled

There are several ways to find the track length and one true way with a few simple calculations.

·         Use sled make and model to search the internet for specs on the sled. Not always true if the sled has been modified.

·         Take the series number that is stamped into the track as well as the manufacture and Google those specs to find track that is installed on the sled.

·         The best way is to calculate the length of the track by determining the pitch of the track and multiplying that number by the number of windows or spaces between the lug patterns. The pitch is the center of one drive window to the next as shown in the attached photo below.

·         Most standard pitch tracks are 2.52”, and 2.86”. There are few others such as 1.97” and 3” that are less common. See photo and measure the distance labeled as pitch and multiply by the number of windows or spaces between lugs.

·         For example: If the track measures at 2.52” pitch times 48 spaces or windows it will calculate to 120.96” so that would be a 121” track. Or with a 2.52” pitch track with 54 spaces it will calculate to 136.08” or 136” track. Always round to the nearest whole number. One more example would be 3”pitch with 51 spaces would be 153”.
